New Pbass (Occelarius Supposedly)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
feed several smaller meals a da for good growth, maybe 3 times a day.
Keep temp at 87 degrees and the oxygen high.
What are you feeding at the moment?
Oh and make sure you keep up with your water changes and they'll grow before your eyes :)

also if your unsure on the I.d of your pbass, post a pick and someone will try and I.d him for you..
Sorry bout the double post.

87* are you bloody serious??? My tank is 78* at the moment and they also have an arowanna as a tank buddy...
I have been feeding them rainbows (not sure of the type, but like splendita or bosmany, but blue and yellow)

Ok here is a pic for ID they have more color and are less pale now that they have settled a bit...

Also what do you recommend for feeders? I will run out of rainbows soon and I cannot breed fish fast enough!!!! This is all new for a Tanganyika buff like myself... I wanna try to weinne them off feeders somehow!!!

Sorry for the double post and the spelling of weinne :D

Stick a heater in there and they will color up for you. You want to duplicate their native temperature. Right now they think it is winter. If you keep it "winter" all the time, you will eventually be raising other fish.

78* is winter??? Damn I'm glad I don't live in South America!!! :screwy:

So you think I should crank my heater up then? Will my arowanna be cool with that?

After 84* I worry... I have kept discus at higher temps, but never anything else!!! :WHOA:

They eat ok... I've only had them for about a week though and they are still a little spooky... Maybe a warmer temp would help with that then... :naughty:

87 degrees is essential for your young cichla to avoid diseases like ich, I won't be the only person to tell you this LOL. I have a silver aro with my bass aswell and they all do fine at this temp.
You can feed rosy reds, guppies, minnows or African cichlids.

So if I raise the temp should I do it slowly or would the be happier if I just did a water change and bumped it up!!!
I'm really not as noob as I sound... I just bought cichla on an impulse and didn't do much homework... LOL

that's ok, cichla are really rewarding fish to own and if you look after them right they'll give you many years of enjoyment. Bump the temp either via a water change or now, either way the fish will adjust.
Don't worry to much about getting them off feeders their still young, they'll grow and develop with awesome colours, wean them off feeders once they get to around 8" or so.
You definately have yourself a nice couple though, their either ocell or mono.. I'm leaning more to monculus though..
