New Pbass (Occelarius Supposedly)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would steer clear of bumping the temp in the tank up to quickly. I would just turn the heaters up and let the water warm up gradually. Pbass can be very sensitive to their enviroment. Sudden changes can shock their systems.

I don't worry about weaning my bass off feeders at least not yet (yeah I said it). I feed them what they will eat. A quality source for the feedeers is the key. My LFS keeps their feeders in a tank you could drink out of. A varied diet is VERY important for the continued health of your fish. That being said, so is natural behavior. They are predators. The ability to hunt and catch their food is equally inportant IMO. I feed a variety of fresh frozen freeze dried and live foods to my fish. Think of it this way steak may be your favorite meal but I doubt anyone would want to eat it 3 times a day every day, and your body wouldn't get everything it needs for optimum health.

but if you actually think about it braddah savage...by turning up the temp is also gradually raises the temp... depending on how big the tank is ofcourse... so why wait and turn it up slowly when it does the same when reaching the desired range;)...

Actually my statement was to whomever suggestion raising the temp by doing a water change. Though my personal opinion is an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I think he said his tank is like 78 degrees. A 10-11 degree in temp is a huge jump. So I would do my changes in increments to be on the safe side. Just my .02.

ohh by all means... pls.. drop your 2cents.... its all good!!!! im just saying by doing changing temps up to your desired range... by either doing a water change or just raising the temp... it still takes a while to get there!, depending on tank size(gallons)... so in other words its still gradually raising the temp slowly with no shock for the fish... i myself sometimes do a water change early in the morning when water is really cold but nothing happens to the fish... it may be immitating seasons with them if you actually think about it!!!:D i figure ill drop my 2pennys also...

Thats cool. I try to match the temperature approximately when doing water changes. I used to be way more anal and would actually put a thermometer in the water.:nilly: If it works for you cool.

When i do water changes i do about a 60% water change. And the water comes from the sink so i try to make it around them same temp as the tank and i put a thermometer i there. And i think you have ocells to me, try frozen bloodworms.

I keep tropheus so I know all about doing water changes with tempature consideration... (They are extremely sensitive to flux) not sure about pbass though... I do "cold" water changes with a lot of Africans to try and replicate the rain seaons to trigger spawns, but we are talking about a whole other continent here and I don't have a clue... So I am a "noob" again so to speak! :grinno:

every fish ive kept were in 30-32 degrees celcius without problems.
this is essential for cichla.
as for weaning them off live,i wouldnt starve them at this size.
try tossing market shrimp into the flow of the powerhead.
if they take it,thats great.
thats how i get my pbass of live.
even at an inch long.
do not starve until they are at least 8 inches.
