So I picked up some peacock bass from another member of the site. 3 kelberi bass that are about 5 -7 inches. I got them on sunday and they really just hide as soon as anyone comes near the tank and wont eat anything. They quickly ate a hand full of pellets before they were netted to be brought home and I got some of the food they were eating at the time. How long should I expect them to go before eating anything again? Hoping to get some pics soon to confirm the species as well. Thanks in advance.

It can take some time. Turn off the lights and make it a stress free tank.

I've had fish who right away ate and thrived in tanks. Some wouldn't and would get stressed out. Depends on the fish and tank mates.

Give it a week but should be fine in a few days

I'll try lights off tomorrow. Just wait it out I guess. Considered a school of tiger barbs to make me feel more comfortable with other fish. And hey are cheap so I won't get too upset when they get eaten. Lol

Give then no places to hide. Once they get use to you, then and the decor back. More time with your fish, the faster they will warm up to you.

i would suggest leaving the room well lit, why don't u go with a 2-3 tin foil barbs. they will cause competition between u pellet trained peacocks and that entices the peacocks to go into a frenzy aswell.

don't worry about peacocks that are already pellet trained, they will succumb on their hunger shortly. just ensure that your water parameters are tip top (pls check ur tank temp aswell) and it is just a waiting game.

like the others said, remove all deco to reduce the hiding spots.

Good luck.

not sure about removing all deco.what about to change it or put a few plants in there?i have a pair of kelberi about 5 months now.they are 45/50 cm now.always hiding with lights off /on.last week i put in the tank a large driftwood and 2 plastic rocks so they had more stuff to play arounf and 3 days ago they start to show of ,clean the tyle and getting ready to breed.in the future when fish will be happy you can always move some stuff from the deco and they will not care..

My azuls and orinos were that size when I got them, they didn't eat for 4-5 days. Just keep offering them the food, when they're ready they'll take it. I agree with the comment about spending time with them, it helps them become less timid.

Water temp is 82 degrees. Just cleaned the tank again yesterday. They will come out together but are gone as soon as I get near the tank. Might try the barbs tomorrow. I worry too much sometimes.
