I noticed that also. Mentioned it to the LFS and the guy I usually go to, a friend of mine who's quite reliable in my experience, said that he eats like a pig and should be completely healthy. He's only about 4-5" in diameter at the moment.
 
I agree, looks skinny. Not much fat build up in it.. Id start feeding it live blackworms or cut up night crawlers asap... All love those and will get him fattened up and less stressed.

looks like a retic... is that a slight heater burn or scratch on the left side near the tail? the color seems missing from the picture
 
If its eating like a pig then perhaps they should try feeding it more,if they tell you it gets regular feeds then its likely to have worms.Either way that ray needs a month to six weeks before its ready for sale,that way you will know if its condition is terminal.Far too many Retics perish within the first week or two of purchase,its not that they are that difficult to keep it because too many shops without the necessary knowledge stock and sell them............................its a crying shame!!!!
 
they really shouldn't sell fish in a such horrible condition
