King kong parrots can close their mouths 100%. Most pet stores don't carry KKP, if they do they're probably just BP's listed as KKP's anyways.

KKP is less about the mouth being able to close and more about not having the "Parrot notch" where the head meets the body.

Its true, not all kkp can close their mouth. So if you just base on the mouth close and judging the kkp is wrong. The whole body and color of it should be consider as well. Base on your fish I said it is a kkp and still small, but I can't tell the sex from the pictures. I have both kkp and bp and I can tell you my bp can close its mouth but the kkp can't. If you want to know your is female and you know for sure your texas is male then put them in together. Male and female don't fight as bad as sex.

The differences I know about are 1 the size, kkp are a lot bigger/bulkier than bp's. And like said they don't have so much of the hump. But can you be so sure about any hybrid fish that they all are going to be the same? I think the closing of the mouth thing is more of a breeding issue.
if you want a kkp, i think i can get someone to sell you one. its from thailand, and proven breeder. but this is going to be more expensive than your lfs quality one....even from elmhurst.
i have one already, pic posted on the first page. mouth is closeable and i saw bp could close their mouths also.
