Question is this fish has a completely different face to my old Chocolate cichlid. and this fish seems to have a much larger body but with small fins, as you can see.
do all chocolates get this large body small finned look as they grow or is this sexual dimorphism?

thanks a lot!

Wow nice to have such quick responces! I wish it was a parrot cichlid that would definately make my day! As far as I knew it was a chocolate but I was just curious about its weird shape as I've kept 2 chocolates in the past and all had more proportionate fins and sharper faces.

Maybe that will change with size. Could just be genetics, or even different geographical variations.

Why does everyone here automatically say something is mixed/hybrid when it looks slightly different? You do realize that a lot of South American cichlids cannot hybridize with other species, right? I wish people wouldn't be so quick to scream hybrid every time someone posted a picture.

It is a chocolate cichlid. They sometimes have pointy faces as young but usually round out as they grow. The one pictured looks like it has the beginning of HITH (see the pits behind the eye) so it's possible that poor diet or water quality has runted it a bit. How large is this fish? I'd give it plenty of food and water changes and hopefully it will get back on track and fill out as it grows.
