New pick up, what do you think? and quick question.

Thanks guys, I thoguth it was a chocolate when I got it anyway (that's why I got it) it wasn't until after I got it home that I realised the shape was a bit strange, Large body and head with small fins.
Here is a picture of my old Chocolate cichlids.

It would suck If this guy developed HITH, but he seems and acts perfectly healthy and was more than happy in the tank at the LFS.
I just fed this fish and hes very greedy which is good. I do regular waterchanges and none of my fish have developed HITH so I'm sure he will be fine in here.
Its good to hear that you guys like the green colouration, I have a lot of hope for this cichlid.

Would be cool if I could find out why it looks the way it does though, the face and body shape reminds me of Aequidens Diadema but its pretty obvious it is a chocolate cichlid.
Anyone on here seen any chocolates that look like this?

Also not sure if it helps but when I got it home in the bag it was coloured like this

Yellow head wiht a dark body, my old chocolates used to go white striped when they were stressed but never got a yellow head.

The fish is around 4-5"

Why does everyone here automatically say something is mixed/hybrid when it looks slightly different? You do realize that a lot of South American cichlids cannot hybridize with other species, right? I wish people wouldn't be so quick to scream hybrid every time someone posted a picture.

It is a chocolate cichlid. They sometimes have pointy faces as young but usually round out as they grow. The one pictured looks like it has the beginning of HITH (see the pits behind the eye) so it's possible that poor diet or water quality has runted it a bit. How large is this fish? I'd give it plenty of food and water changes and hopefully it will get back on track and fill out as it grows.

+1....honestly one of the most annoying thing about MFK. And then the expert comes in and states the correct species with a completely different genus then the ones guessed.

There's something odd about it. I've seen really small chocolates with short fins as they're just developing, but usually by 4 - 5" they've got longer fins. I got my last chocolate at 4" and it didn't take on its adult coloration for a few months. It also had a very pointed snout which I thought seemed weird at the time. It rounded out as it got larger. Here are some pictures as it progressed.
