I was browsing craigslist and seen someone giving away a bunch of cichlids.

Couple Convicts, 2 Jack Dempseys, a low grade FH, and a few others, and this guy.
I'm assuming it's nothing fancy, I don't have much experience with them. What would be a good diet for it?
Don't mind the dirty glass, my son has to touch the tanks daily. Lol

Is he feeding yet? At that size they can be fragile. Make raise your water temp to 84 or so and feed him anything it will eat till it puts on some size, that one is on the skinny side. They grow very quick but just make sure you can get him eating. If you have to don't be afraid to give him some live feeders to get him started.

Good post/advice.

He hasn't ate, I offered some crushed Hikari pellets. He seemed interested, but didn't eat it. I will pick up some feeders tomorrow morning. I'd rather get him eating and healthy and worry about getting him on pellets after.

Would small guppies be the best as far as feeders? I have frozen bloodworms, and brine shrimp I will try to offer him as well.

At the size of your bass, if you're going to get him live food guppies or gudeons make sure they are very small like baby sizes, last thing you want is the bass to take on a live feeder which is a little to big for his mouth get stuck in its mouth and can't spit it out, if it's stuck and you can't help in time bass will die

Well, some good news he ate some blood worms, and a few brine shrimp.

I did get some guppies I left a few really small ones in there, he hasn't ate them yet. I put a bunch in a spare 10 gallon and I'll let them breed and use the smallest ones as feeders for now, if he does eventually eat them. I'm just glad he ate something.

Any idea on what type of peacock he is or is it too small to tell?

I checked on him a minute ago and the feeder fish were gone. I put a couple more in there and he pounded them down.

How much should he be eating? I know they eat a lot.
