That sucks man! At least you still have 3 of them.

Btw. I dunno if the thing about plants is true or not but I have anubias and anacharis floating around with mine and haven't had any problems yet.

you don't need plants for any species of fish. Just do 50% water changes a week and you'll be fine.

Its safe to have plants with them as long as you can keep a close eye on the ph levels in your tank. plants to wonders for aquariums in the matter of nitrates but they also feed on minerals in the water. find a way to buffer your water if you use plants. I use duckweed in my tanks to control nitrates and I also have plants thriving in my main tank. but I have to use crushed coral in my filter to control ph. its always the same ph and I do water changes frequent and consistently.

i wouldn't put plants just be be safe.

Iv gone back and forth with useing live plants in my tanks with no issues. Other than i can never keep plants alive for more than a few months.

Sucks you lost one.

Most say you can't keep more than one anyways.

How are you feeding them? Most say they should be swimming in feeders until they reach a certain size.

I can't see any issue with using plants either. These are SA natives and generally their ph down there is slightly lower than ours.

Plants do however create ph swings by adding o2 during the day and sucking it out at night.

You lucky SOB. I paid $60 for the least desirable payara (not that I don't love the little guy) and you get armatus for $30 a piece! Congrats man! I would watch the bass and aro. Make sure these things aren't bullied to death, because they will grow up to be awesome fish.

I believe Fleshy is correct too: there should be a constant supply of food in the tank while these guys are young.

More pics!

Thanks for replays everyone. I am tryying to get 4 more but they were not on the list this week, maybe next week though.
Few cell pics
