new pick ups!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
btw nice pick ups !!! I picked up a few melnarus myself . Came from spencer jack . I have them both in a grow out tank and they hate eachother so I had to put up a divider unfortunately .... not really sure what the end results will be . Hopefully they will snap out of it and learn to get along so they can both go in the big tank with the big boys .

wouldnt mind seeing a few pictures of your melanarus too? they probably look like the ones at the store. I read a thread on here from a few years ago that talked about the differences between melanarus and Synspilum. someone did note that the syns were more peaceful as juveniles, but that melanarus settled down as adults.

and yeah everyone around here is very nice, its good to be back after an extended period away

for sure I will take some pictures today . They are really shy yet and only 2.5 to 3 inches but if I sit still for a while I will for sure be able to snap one or two pictures . I really hope they settle down as adults or ill have to buy another large tank . lol !

the fish are settled in now so I thought I would take a few pictures, excuse the glass I don`t have a blade handy right now and my sponge scraper is kinda bad.

The syn

The only way I can show you the blue irridescance the syn has is by taking a picture without flash, so I had to wait for him to get still for that

The texas appears to have black near the top so I would assume female, although I had a pair of round body carpintis around a year ago that both looked female when I got them but one developed into a very obvious male and even fathered some fry with her.

Below is a young individual that came from Cichlids of the Americas.
He lists them as melanurum (synspillum are considered by some, as simply a color variant of melanurum) from Lago Peten
