A little story. The store owner didn't know about datnoids at all. About 6 months ago, I called and asked him if he could get me a tiger datnoid, he then said he had one and would give it to me for free if I stopped by again (as I live an hour away and gas price was high). I was like "for real?!" But when he showed me the fish, it wasn't the tiger datnoid obviously! It was something else with tiger in its name that I didn't care to find out, and he felt kinda bad for my 2 hour drive That was why I asked for a picture first this time; and he sent me the first pic in the first post.
It was a trade-in. I hope I really got a great deal. But at the same time I'm thinking either the dat MIGHT have some issues or the previous owner really wanted to get rid of it even at a very low trade-in price (maybe $20-$25). And the store owner still doesn't know much about the fish as he listed it as "silver datnoid" for $30.
BTW, the fish's eyes (and mine too ) are fine for sure, no problem there.
After about 10 days of not eating anything, the new tiger started eating some talapia/shrimp pieces and even some sticks, not much just some. He's now a more dominant one over the old tiger. And I've noticed that the old tiger has stopped picking on the pbass now. All is good.
BTW I just added a 6"-7" leporinus yesterday (not sure if it's a affinis or fasciatus, definitely neither a desmote nor the rare ones). It has 9 stripes total. It was a donation to this LFS (not the same one that I got the tiger from) due to its nasty aggressiveness, but I paid $15 for it! lol It has a very good contrast in colors with pitch black stripes on yellow base, even more so than the tigers and clown loaches. Its lower chin is in a 24K bright gold color. It was hiding all the time at the lfs, but it once in my tank started to go about checking out the others. It started nipping around (well known for as a fin nipper!) and almost got itself in trouble as the biggest pbass attempted to eat it! lol But it's too thick for a 9" pbass to eat though. The wife is out of town with both P&S and SLR cameras or I'd try to show its pics here. The next best part of having this new addition is it is a great left-over food cleaner. So it works out very well.
