My rope eats the crumbs of the pellets that the bichirs leave.. he is always scouting around for left overs but he primarily loves blood worms and brine shrimp ..just about any frozen food..i have never seen him actually eat a whole pellet.
My daughter really wants a rope fish. I have read that they can grow up to 3 feet long!!! We have a 55gal tank, filled & ready, but no fish in it yet. I'm worried that the tank isn't big enough. Also, I have heard that they like to be with other rope fish? What kind of fish do you keep with them?

I've housed my ropefish with 10+ bichirs for the last year or so and he gets along great with them. I tried to introduce another ropefish into the tank about 2 months ago but it was much smaller than my other ropefish and it eventually was killed by my 9 1/2 inch Ornate. I re-introduced a new ropefish into my tank a few days ago and so far it seems to be going ok. This ropefich is about the same size as my first one. maybe even slightly bigger. I think that they are getting along well because they are now sharing the same hiding place. Also I think that the new one is a female to go along with my male so that might be helping the situation as well.
