Some of you either have some slow growing fish or you are not feeding enough or you need to do more water changes or all of the above.

My plain old RTC grew from 3" to 20" in 6 months.

we named our rtcXtsn 'hunter' as he will prolly grow up to be one hell of a hunter....

razor??

tape measure and photo dated pics please. not to say anything but that seems a little fast for even a good ole rtc. i thought mine was doing pretty good going from 2" to 15" in about 7 months.

You can look through my old thread here.

I know he was 3" when I got him because I measured and I know he was 20" when he died, because I measured. I had no desire to take a picture of my dead RTC against the ruler. You can see him at 18-19" in the last pic in the photo thread those were the final photos I took. He would have been even bigger to but survived through a 3 day power outage where the water temp dropped to the mid 50's and he didn't eat for a bit after that, that was around the 1' mark.

If you don't take my word for it's fine, but if you look through my posts you'll see I am a grown adult who posts true factual information.

-Oh and I brought up what I thought was fast growth to BassLover in a previous thread from months back and he said it was completely normal. Which leads me to believe either many people have really slow growing fish or they are doing something wrong. (IE; not enough food, not enough water changes, not enough space to grow etc)

So, yes. As you can see they grow at unreal rates. I have my guys on a mix of food. When they were little, they got sinking carnivore pellet, red wrigglers (for the first month or so when they were tiny), chunks of defrosted krill, and anything they stole from the other fish. They've all been on the same diet, and yet I have one TSN that is about 16" and not very beefy, and another one who is 21". There is no fighting or even tension in the tank, its just a slightly different appetite and growth rate. My one guy has never been a particularly aggressive eater. They are now on massivore pellets, sinking cichild gold pellets, krill, steamed cocktail shrimp, steamed tilapia, and still whatever gets stolen from the others.

I keep them at a pH 6.5 or so, a temp of 80, and a somewhat lower GH. They have outgrown the filtration I have at the moment, and I'm doing huge water changes every 5 days. These are dirty fishies.

Also, these guys do spook, and, when they get large and start putting on the weight as well as the length, they can hit the glass incredibly hard. You find some with a bent nose, as they can break their noses when they hit the side. Generally, they are really relaxed, but turn on a sudden light at night, and they may go crashing around. Also, they're called tank buster for a reason, so taking an extra 3 seconds to let their eyes adjust or let them know you are there can make a big difference. Once they know you are there and moving around, they're just fine and happy to see you.

Good luck with your little guy!

TSNxRTC is easy to raise. IF you want him to grow fast, do lot of water change and feed them market shrimp or carnivore pellet. They do grow in rapid rate like most catfish and will out grow your 125 fast.

as per your other thread, 11/10/2008 he was about 10.5" and about 4/20/2009 he was 20" roughly. that is 5 months and under 10" of growth, that equals out to about 2" a month which is the norm.
