I stumbled across this guy and decided to take the plunge. He will help break in my new tank later this week......i was at a not-so-local LFS and they had him in a large mixed tank with silver aros and FH and a 12" tiginus cat...Paid a pretty penny but no shipping!! Hydrolyus Tatauid....Red Tailed Papara.....about 7.5 inches.. what do think??

Congrats on the new pick up - Nice size too. I wouldn't be too concerned with any issues during teeth shedding if anything pat yourself on the back for keeping them healthy enough to re-grow new teeth. Payara shedd and re-grow teeth that's the way it is.

What I would be concerned with is using a Payara to cycle the "New" tank. Payara are too sensitive to water conditions. Hopefully the new tank is already established. Best of luck!

Agreed and in my experience they seem to do better in the company of their own kind rather than singly.Mine wouldn't take pellets but loved raw shrimp and cut up fish.

Thanks! I should not experience a cycle.....I am moving up to a bigger tank....My two filters, medium, driftwood, and fake plants are all moving up too. It should go down like a 80% water change!

They only had one. So far it has not eaten and i do not use live foods....I am hoping the Red Hooks, cichlids and dats are good company.....i have seen no aggression in my 52 gallon....doubling the footprint should only help! I will keep an eye out for a another!!

It's not unusual for tats not to eat for a few days after coming home.My first tat took down a nice apollo shark within minutes and all others afterward took up to two weeks before eating.

Nice new pick up Ken!!! Mind if I ask which local fish store this was?

Not Local at all....House of fins; Greenwich. Nicest saltwater store i have ever seen bar none!

Finally got a meal in him! My tank has some aggressive feeders.....It took 4 days but I got him to eat a thawed silverside by tying a fishing line loosely around its tail and dangling it in front....yesterday he bit but would not eat....today he swallowed it up. Very psyched!!
