this thing can eat my aro!
i dont think i'll be keeping it for long.
its gonna get to 4 feet in its first year.
so im gonna put it back where i got it soon.

Beautiful moniter What kind of Varanus is that???? It looks like a baby Water Moniter, If it is, I'd probably just let him go (they get up to 4ft long), but if ur gonna keep him, I'd feed him crickets or roaches (depending on his local habitat) once a day. I'd hold back on the chicken just till he gets a lil bigger. Also a bigger tank would be much better, maybe 20gl long.

this tank is 30 plus gallons.
they get to 6 feet long on average.
ive seen them in the wild at 9 feet!
hes going back to where he came from soon.
im basically feeding crickets for now,but tomorrow or the day after hes leaving me.

Looks like a little water or nile, I really hope water monitor... niles are usually evil little guys. Haha, I'd DEFINITELY look into making a huge tank in the future (like 10ftx5ftx5ft), if you feed right, and take good care of them, both of those species grow very very fast. You're also going to want a deep dirt substrate and a nice hot basking spot, with a surface temp. 100+ degrees fareinheit. So, for now maybe get a little bit bigger of a tank and a heatlamp? Oh and it'd be a good idea to cover up the screen if you are going to use a fishtank, it'll help maintain humidity and heat :]
Oh, and you're gonna want to feed as much as he'll eat everyday for the first year or 2, and then slow it down to a couple times a week, feed mice, rats, or crickets and other bugs with calcium on them.

ive read up on everything and have everything i need for now.
but im going to let him go cause my little house cant house him for long.
as for humidity,i live where i caught it.
so its not much of a problem.
just got a heat lamp today.
i think im going to stick to bearded dragons for now.

NICE! how docile is s/he? i'd get it on some soil with a load of hides. tiny thing must be scared half to death. post down in the exotic pets forum, varanio will have a ton of advice for ya. what are your future plans for it?

he has everything he needs for now.
but im letting him go.
he kept trying to bite me at first.
but now he doesnt really mind me much,though still a bit skittish.

i love reptiles,especially monitors.
i wouldve rather got a smaller species,but i cant get em here cause they arent exactly legal.
my friend can get me a bearded dragon though,but its gonna cost me.
