Been eying these guys for a while now. Tried ordering them wholesale a few months back but they were out of stock when I placed my order. Was going to buy them a couple of months ago at a LFS and never did. Stopped back in 2 days ago and they still had them for the same price accept they were twice the size so I had to get them! Even managed to haggle down the LFS to 4/$10 @ about 1.25". These are f1 stock too.

not very big yet but as you can see they're very well fed already. They've had two 50% water changes already and they seem to be doing great. They're sharing a 30gallon with 5 of my underscribed sp. geophagus between 2.5-3.5" heres a picture of them.

they get along better than I could have ever expected for cichlids, never seen a nip or anything out of either of these 2 species yet. I'm very happy with them so far but I've got a few questions.

-What should I expect the growth rate to be on these guy to be? I do a ton of water changes on this tank so the water will be kept perfect.

-Any favorite foods this species has? Seems like they'd be more into veggies rather than meaty products. I feed a staple of various types of NLS, kens, omega one, and hikari but have frozen veggies and meats handy too which I feed 1-2 times a week.

-At what size do they start to color up?

-How do you sex them?

the nics are looking good so are the geo's.

i would id the geo's as geophagus brasiliensis but dont take my word for it i dont know much about geos yet.

thats what they were ID'ed on here as before but they've basically stopped growing already and they were bred by the president of one of our local clubs or else I would be thinking the same. I'm still not sure what they are. He had them listed as "rio salito" and told me they were a unprescribed species. Have never heard anything else about them either.

Heres some shots of them 3 months ago at about the same size.

ok well i researched the rio salito and couldnt find anything atall, have u asked on here? im gunna look for the brasiliensis now.

ok so geo brasiliensis are not meant to stop growing until 9-12" they slow down at about 7" but still grow a bit just not as much as the growth rate as juvies.
