I don't live in America so i have no problems at all getting a snakehead. I'm from hong kong so snakeheads a widely available here. That snakehead cost me abt $40US and i could go to a wet market and get a 2 foot one for about $5US but its dead. sucks balls....

Thanks for the replies. I might be going back some time this week to get another snakehead. And some live feeders... so that should be fun.
yeah i agree 40usd is expensive.....but he's so cute (saw yr vid) he deserve it :)
sh are hardy fish, they not going to belly up unless you do something stupid.....and DON'T EVER EVER feed them feeder goldfish, i had nasty experiences

sgland: what were your nasty experience? Please do tell.. Yeah he was well worth the 40usd they're not usually that expensive, first time i got my snakeheads when i was 16 or so they were only about 15USD so mch cheaper, i think their not importing them here as much so they're a little rare.

I agree... just to be on the safe side. :) an occasional rosy red would be okay, just be sure to quarantine first before feeding.I've also had bad experience w/ feeders, lost a prize piece to parasites... (introduced by feeders).

Beautiful fish, btw! Definitely one of the most colorful and most sought after channa species out there! Stunning!! ;)

Lost my rainbow awhile back... knocked the strainer off of the filter intake, got sucked up and crunched by the impeller. :(

my first 2 giant sh (10") went into seizures 24 hrs after they took a feeder gf each. They died within mins of each other and i saw the whole thing. They were like ok doing their usual stuff, then begin to lose balance then uncontrollable convulsions then death, it happened real quick. i never touch gf since and so far my current sh are doing great. though i'm no CSI, but i say the gf did it.

sgland: thats so messed up! Rayman fed his SH a gold fish tho?? I'm sorry for your loss, i've had 3 snakeheads (this is my forth) and they've all died due to jumping out my freakin fish tank. I HATE IT! anyways thanks for the heads up. I doubt my SH would get big enough to take goldfish. oh well.

PhullTank57: sorry for you loss toO! That sounds really bad, you got me kinda scared now coz the strainer on my filter kinda comes of easily. Gonna find some way to secure it.

I've just taught my snakehead to jump out the water and eat a piece of dried shrimp outta my hand which i'm holding just above the water. I'll post a video of it up soon. He's sooo cute...

i don't know about rayman gf, but the ones i fed were smaller real gf. His looks more like koi or something. I heard it's something inside the gf. It totally ruined my sh ability to breath, they were like grasping for air prior to death. Some darkish blood seems to come out from the gills too. It was a sad sight.

Can never do that with mine :D

When i use to keep piranha's i heard this as well abt gold fish. Something about some chemical in their stomach that makes the fish that eats them ill. But i use to feed my piranhas goldfish all the time they had no worries. even had that dark green like blood spew out of them when a piranha the whole goldfish in half and it was still trying to swim around. I had no problems with my Piranhas.

However i'm not gonna risk it with my my dear SH. He was way too expensive for me. but i love him anyways. Anyone find that SH have quite a bit of personality?
