Hey, I picked up two new pikes today from the store. they had a bunch of belly crawlers in, and as I was looking, these two caught my eye. They were different than the others in that they had a large black spot just above the lateral black line, rimmed with yellow. They also have iridescent blue/green spots on the back 2/3 of their bodies. Any idea on the ID for these guys? They're about 3.5-4" long.

Could be either alta or anthurus. Grab them and grow them up. :) Gorgeous pikes, and if it turns out to be neither of the two, its still gonna be one awesome pike. :)

I grabbed both of them. How does $10 each sound for a price? :D

I'd have to say it looks more like anthurus, from the pics I just looked up online...

Awesome! Sounds like a great price. :)

From those pictures though it looks like you got two males...hahaha. Hope that doesn't turn out to be the case, or that they get in more later.

Too many spots/spangles for Alta. . . I vote Anthurus :D Great pick up at a great price!

It's a Crenicichla, and is therefore awesome by default.

it looks as though that gar in the last pic is contemplating his next meal.
Is that some sort of gar?

They are currently sharing a tank with some young shortnose gar. Don't worry, the pike are too big (I'm pretty sure) to be eaten. There is a senegal bichir of about the same size, and they completely ignore him. These pikes are about twice the size of something the gar would consider food. The gar will also be going out into a pond I'm currently building, as soon as its done.
