I finally found some pikes that I want. My only problem is I don't know what speices they are. They are about 2-3" and are like an orangish red more red color with like a solid black line down the side of them. They also have a little bit of olive green on them. They are called black-line pikes or straight-line pikes im not sure which one. And they are selling for about $18. Do you guys think I should buy em?

Crenicichla sp. 'xingu I'...great pikes! Just keep in mind the juv. don't look anything like the adults. Males will be olive greyish, females are stunnin, with a red belly, and brownish grey ends. Very kewl. Females will also have a white stripe in the dorsal, but this won't be till they are about 8 to 10"...;)

They are a relatively large pike, my pair got up to 14" (male) and 10" (female). Got a SERIOUSLY bad case of ick while i was gone, which was really sucky, and they kicked it. BUT they are totally kewl pikes. Know though that as juv. till about 4" they are pretty laid back, but once they hit 4" and up they start gettin more aggressive. Adult xingu I are some of the more aggressive pikes out there. HTHs any more questions fire away! :p

Actually they aren't xingu 1. I have had a couple xingu 1 before and they are really different. I think we are going to pick one up sometime this week and I'll post pics so you guys can identify it. Thanks

From your discription seriously does sound like xingu I. Gotta member that there is a great variety in the coloration of individuals, some will be golden with lots of spots on the head, where as others will be reddish with not very many spots. All will have the black lateral line. Do get pictures though! Def. ID it then!

Yea I know there is a good variety out there and what not but this is deffinatly NOT xingu 1. I knew that somebody was going to say that too. Sorry for the vague description. I think I might be goin to get it today. I will post up some pics.
