this guy should only get about 4". its one of the dwarf pikes. im pretty positive its a female notophthalmus. i think im gonna head back and try to get a male and make a pair. might pick up another female to increase chances of getting a pair.

A 20 long is fine for one dwarf pike, rather it is noto or an orinoco dwarf (which is what I believe the colombian wallacii actually are after comparing pics of mine to the orinoco's).
A 20 long will not be long enough to pair them up though unless you get lucky and find love at first sight. These little guys are just as grumpy as the normal sized ones to each other. I've even had them kill each other off in 40 breeders and 75 gallon tanks.
As for which one, you'd really need a pic of the male's dorsal fin. My 'wallacii'/orinoco females were ringed in an orangish red where the female's ring was deep red. But I couldn't pick that out unless I had them side by side. I'm leaning noto due to the tail coloration, but without seeing if the males have the extended cac-like dorsal fin, I wouldn't be 100% sure.

yea the red ring is nice. they have around a hundred at shark aquarium. i picked up two more. im wondering about the dorsal ocelli tho. i was looking through the tank and i know that the ocelli si a sign of female. but i could only find one other with the dorsal ocelli. they are pretty small at a bout 1-1.5 inches so i dont know if that trait shows up later on.

That sounds about right, when I bought both noto's and wallacii/orinoco dwarves they were male heavy. Two females to 10 males or see each time. The ocelli show up early.

ill try... they had a bit of ich when i bought them and are alittle intimidated by the bigger one. do those extended dorsal rays in males show up in when they are very small? ill try to get a pick tomorrow or see if i see it.
I've only seen adults for sale. at least 2.5-3" already, and they had the extensions. Smaller than that, I couldn't rightly say yet ...
