Very interesting, I never knew that!
Neither did I.
Something I remember reading many years ago when researching piranhas. Iirc I saw about it on the older piranha forums. It’s highly possible I misremember/misinterpreted, but the important part is that they are very light sensitive since they spend their entire life in the dark, murky waters of the Amazon).

Tongs should be good as long as pieces are big/easy enough to grab. The siphon may be better for smaller bits but the important part is that you’re getting the uneaten stuff out.
My only suggestion is the dim the lights a bit. Piranhas don’t have dilating pupils, so bright lights are extra painful for them. You’ll get better activity with dimmer lighting.
i only run my lights when i'm home on days off,

some of the fluval lights you can dim in the app,

in the olden days we would wrap the bulbs in electric tape, can also carefully put paper between glass / light

i use a small net to get out old food,

good luck!
