great looking Esox there. given you've been able to get E. lucius from across the ocean, have you considered looking into the elusive Amur pike (Esox reichertii)?

here's a pic/site link:

They were farm bred so they are probably from a very accesible source of Northern pikes from either North America or from Europe. the Amur Pike is a pretty rare fish. I have never seen them in the hobby.

yes, this is why it would be interesting to see them brought in to the hobby. unfortunately they were stocked in PA many years back, and that was an unwise decision by Fish & Wildlife at the time (it may have been DNR, i can't remember exactly). for the pet trade it would be an interesting (albeit challenging/special needs) species, but introduction of a species like this for game purposes is never a good idea. they've all but been bred out/wiped out in the US, and fortunately there are no plans to bring them back.

again, as an aquarium fish (for those with big enough tanks), it would be cool to see. i guess until then, we'll have to leave it up to those venturing to the colder environments of Asia.

sorry for the derail, great looking pikes! :) --

I wish pike were legal in CA. I had fun hooking several northerns when I went to my wife's family reunion in Minnesota last year. I love the greenish sheen--IMO, they look like the Sleestaks from "Land of the Lost."

Those pikes are beautiful. Is it just me or do those pikes have exceptionally nice markings?

Quite strange for fish being kept in a container. In my experience, fish kept in temporary containers like this and not proper tanks tend to be stressed and lose their colouration.
