I was sitting watching TV when I heard a loud noise and then a big fish floppin' around on the floor. I went running to see that it was the 11" Cong I recently got. The dang thing hit the closed lid hard enough to go flying right through it. I got him in the tank quickly. He has a damaged lip from the ordeal, but other than that, he is ok.

had my share of these incidents. sucks...

Is this common with Congicus or other lower jaw species? My active 12" Ornate and 8" Polli have never come close to jumping out as far as I know. I would think that upper jaws would be much more likely to jump out than lower jaws.

Glad he made it  Still haven't had one jump on me, hopefully I've got the tank sealed up pretty well...

you have to weight the lid or work out a to latch it shut

bichirs are pretty much all muscle once you get past the gill covers and theres a lot of power they can use in short bursts.:banher:

Huh... It's good to hear that you saved it in time.

The only time one of my polys ever tried jumping was when I was acclimating my Lap in the bucket... She tried to jump a couple times. I'm hoping that will be the only time.

close call, glad it's okay. good luck securing the lid if it's that light.

Did you rinse him off before putting him back in the tank?

The lint and what not that gets stuck to them can cause bacterial infections if they lost too much slime coat.
