New polypterus, need help with ID.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks Uwe! Anyone care to concur? I'm not really disappointed, I don't have this species yet. If it is, I now have A Palmas Palmas, a Palmas Buetikofferi, and a Palmas Polli.

Would I get better color and contrast going with black sand?

yes wurm, dark substrate brings out the color in bichirs, and look MUCH MUCH better

I think I'll take the advice of the leading MFK vegetable and get some dark substrate.

very nice. not even a lower jaw...no idea why it was labeled as congicus

I'm gonna need to know when the taxonomy was changed and a location for the source-Anne

As far as I know the palmas complex include
Polypterus palmas palmas
and 2 subspecies
1) Polypterus palmas polli
2) Polypterus palmas buettikoferi

We label them what the distributor labels them.

varanio also gave me good advice. If you have light substrate and scatter around a few dark ones, it has a similar, although not as dramatic, effect as having dark substrate

not saying it was your fault, it was the distributor's (as usual, esp. in LFS)
