So the possibility of my other half and I moving in the near future to a bigger apartment has had my mind going crazy with the prospect of a new pond.

After alot of thinking, and space willing I want to go with a pond about 10'x4'x2'.

It will be housing my five Hystrix alone.

I am going to experiment with natural filtration out of inspiration from a fellow MFK member. I will be using a variety of plants such as Pothos backed up by a single sump for added biologics. The bio-load should not be too heavy so I am confident in it's success.

I will be sure to keep everyone updated on this. Any thoughts, concerns and suggestions are always welcome.

Oh I can not wait!

Congrats :)

Indoor pond I take it?

That is such a cool idea. Got it from severum, right? He's inspired me so many times it is crazy.

If I could suggest something, with the pump running water back to the tank from the sump, you could add some hydroponics to the system and grow some strawberries or lettuce or something. Would keep the water clean, and everybody likes free food.

I'm in MD; when you finish, would it be too much to ask that Ash and I could come see it? :)

I did get the idea from severum and fell absolutely in love with the idea when I first saw it.
The hydroponics are an excellent idea and I will most certainly like to do them. My sump has not been constructed yet but I will make it so it can support the hydroponics as well. Thanks for the great idea. Now I just have to learn how to build the sump and tie in the hydro and I am set lol

I would love for you and Ash to come see it when it is all finished.
We could talk rays all day and maybe go out for some chow as well.

All you have to do is run the return line from your pump through your hydroponics. Really super easy, and I'm sure there are some good threads on here about it.

Sounds awesome. Maybe we'll have you over as well, when we get at least one of the 523's set up and running. I'm thinking about growing something in the sump, but it all depends on how I decide to build the lids.

I wouldn't put the grow beds/ trays whatever u wanto call them sitting ontop of the pond.. you've got limited viewing already by only being able to see from the top why would you wanto limit that even further??

I would make it seperate if anything.
