Hi everybody I'm new here and I need some help with a pond I'm building.
I have 13 turtles (12 Trachemys scripta and 1 Rhinoclemmys Funerea) in a pond I built like 3 years ago(pics below). I'm moving to another place, so I'm building a new pond!!! :nilly:

My idea for the new pond is something like this: http://www.koionline.co.za/Pond -window.jpg

the volume of the pond would be: 325cm long x 60cm x 60cm (close to 310 gal)

I want some fishes in the pond with the turtles, I had some koi's and there was no problem. What would be nice and compatible with the turtles?

Any comments, suggestion, help with info about care of turtles so they can have a better life would be awesome!!!

great! other fishes that would work well with turtles?
I didn't mentioned that there's gonna be a dry area where the turtles can rest and get some sunlight

You might want to aim larger than 310g for 13 turtles, especially if you want to add any koi. That is a lot of animals for that small of a body of water to handle. I would double or even triple the water volume just to start.

That said, the first pond you showed is very nice. I like the design, and very inventive way to provide access to and from the water. I'll have to keep that in mind for my next pond build :).

With only 2' of depth, i don't think the viewing window is necessary.

I would do a couple of goldfish instead of Koi if only going to be 300 gals.

The dimensions you gave, are they final? Can you go any deeper?

I'm gonna take some pictures latter, 'cause those are some old ones, thanks for your comments.

Conner: I don't think I can double the volume... :S
Muske: Those are the final dimensions... I think I can make the most 70cm of depth... How's that?

If that's as big as you can go, I would nix the koi, or only do 1 or 2. Or go with goldfish instead, as they don't require as much space as koi.

I would also focus on making sure you have very good filtration for this pond.

Good luck with it, can't wait to see some more pics of the current pond!

It's gonna have good filtration and water movement! small waterfall

I can change the height and width, but not changing the volume.

Pics coming soon!
