ok so today i had an idea to breed rams in a black 20.9g plastic tub. i bought the tub from homedepot for $12. tomorrow im going to buy a sponge filter, heater, and some live plants. i am currently cycling the water with a few goldfish. the set up will be sand drift wood and live plants. ill see if i can get some picture up tomorrow of how it looks like. and if you feel i need to do anything else tell me :)

Why the plastic tub? Why not just use a regular fish tank?

because when i researched on breeding rams when they become timid they can eat their eggs and fry. and on source said to tape paper to the aquarium wall.

this is how it currently looks. im going to be adding some live plants soon.

yeah looking good to me, will def be interesting to see how this turns out, i was always nervous about using heaters in those tubs, do you attach it to the side or put it on the substrate? i always thought it might heat the plastic to much but then im kind of paranoid about those kinds of things (after placing the plastic clip that holds the heater to the inside of the tank to low on the heater and it melted the clip and busted the heater so i came home to big chunks of thin glass in my tank :()

i will be attaching it to the side. and there is nothing to worry. ive attached a heater to a rubbermaid plastic storage bin before and it didnt show any signs of melting.

cool, good to know:thumbsup:

A nice tip is to put the heater inside some pvc piping. Rams are pretty interesting to breed, my problem was raising the fry. I was giving them some of the baby brine shrimp that i feed my angel and discus fry. But, I still had no luck raising any to maturity.
