A nice tip is to put the heater inside some pvc piping. Rams are pretty interesting to breed, my problem was raising the fry. I was giving them some of the baby brine shrimp that i feed my angel and discus fry. But, I still had no luck raising any to maturity.

thnx for the tip!

what happened to firemouths?

uhh idk. still thinking. but im more interested in rams. currently cycling the tub right now with two gold fish and a dozen feeder guppies. :D

The vibrations of walking up to the tub may still be enough to startle them and keep them uncomfortable. I think a tank would be fine. My rams always spawned out in the open on top of sponge filters and even flared up at me when I came near the tank.

My experience with a lot of egg-eating cichlids is that they're young and still practicing. A lot of people are quick to pull eggs from pairs if they eat them on the second or third spawn. I just let them keep trying until they get it right. I had a pair of koi angels that ate 26 spawns before they finally parent-raised one. It took my ram pairs many tries, but they usually get it eventually.

I think it'd be easier to monitor the fish and see/feed/remove the fry if they were in a glass tank that you could observe them in. JMO.

ok so today ive decided that i will be sticking to fire mouth cichlids. i moved the tub from my house to my parents house because to many feral cats keep on eating my gold fish im trying to use to cycle the tub. here are some pictures of how it looks like now.
