Jacuzzi heaters?

I have a hot tub, that I was thinking about taking apart... Rinsing out the pump and maybe using it. I guess I could also take out the heater.

I'm hesitant to do so, because I recall someone losing fish because they had used a pump that was on a hot tub before.

Why use electricity to heat the pond when you can use the sun! They sell solar water heaters for above ground pools that are in line with pumps that use the sun to heat the water as it passes through. HERE is an example I'm sure they come in all different sizes. This way you can possibly use the existing filtration pump to power the solar heater.

I thought of doing something like this. I was going to take Plywood, paint it black and then run pvc in a "snake" pattern throughout the entire board. Then paint the pvc black also.

I wonder if I would get the same 10-15 degree increase? That would be a cheap method, in both long term and short term costs.

That would probably woork to just get some black ABS pipe or paint the pipe and plywood black to absorb more heat. Not sure how well this would work but you could also run the pipe a few feet under ground to cool the water in the summer. Not sure how much pipe you would have to run to accomplish that but you could use both and simply turn a pair of valves to switch between the solar heater and the cooler line.

if you had a black roof you could put coils of black pipe on there and pump water through them ive seen people use this on swimming pools
(kind of the same thing the other guy posted)

Yeah, I'd have to be able to bypass it in the summer tho. Which wont be hard to do.

Two valves to make a bypass. simple.

But run the coils at night to dissipate heat from the pond during the summer, worked for me.

Glaze (glass) over the pipes to keep heat in in the winter.

Insulate the upper half and you can stay at 4' above ground.

Start taking scuba lessons so you can clean it :D.

Jacuuzi heater will work, just clean . The pump is another story as they weren't made to run 24/7/365 and are usually power hogs.

does ge silicone bond to plexi ???

dow 832 with primer works great

is drylock rated for continous immersion ???

I've heard of people using drylok for tanks and having success. The person I'm thinking of applied it to wood, which drylok is meant to be used on concrete. So I should be okay.

The windows will be glass. I have 3/4" Glass, this is another reason the glass will be placed almost at the top of the tank. I figured there will be much less water pressure at the top than lower down. This is true, correct?
