lol. no.. but i used freshwater salt not marine salt. i dont think my geos would appreciate an sg of 1.005 to much but i could be wrong.

i did 3 tablespoons for 30gallons and dissovled it a bucket first.

should this guy have marine salt? that will raise the ph.

lfs said they keep these puffers with freshwater salt but im not sure if they know what they are doing.

You're right about the LFS... I rescued 2 Ceylon puffers that were in freshwater at the LFS. 1 died, but the second has been with me for 4 years. His tank is at 1.015 and will eventually hit full marine ( 1.023-1.026 ). I use marine salt, but you don't have to ( I have a saltwater tank also ). For puffers, it's not micro nutrients that are important ( like corals ) but just the fact that it's saltwater. ( something to do with an internal salt regulator fish have. Some require more than others, that's why some sharks, etc, can come into freshwater).

Having a bit higher PH won't hurt it either. If you didn't have salt, a higher (ish) PH is the best for them.

What I do for both my marine and brackish tanks is have them pre-mixing in tubs. I put a powerhead and heater and let it mix for a min of 24 hours. ( the marine tank has some mixing all week between water changes ).

If you want more specific information, PM me. I'll gladly help you out with the puffer:D
