New Pups, Will this one survive?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have heard several people say that pups do not respond well to drips, maybe one of them can chime in. Good luck with them either way and congrats

I've heard that as well. Pups are a bit unstable for the first few days to a week. High temp (84-86), quiet location with dim lighting and they will do fine. Typically pups don't eat for the first 3-5 days so no need to feed. This will help to keep the tank water cleaner and reduce the need for a drip or water changes (provided you are using a seasoned filter). Afyer 5 days I like to feed live black worms as they will live in the tank a long time and not fowl up the water if not eaten right away. Smaller more frequent water changes work better than large ones. Usually I start water changes after they start feeding. Typically they will pick at the food at first before "pouncing" on it. Another reason to use live black worms. Once they aggressively eat, I feed 3 times a day.

i dont have exp with pups yet as mine are not old eneuff to breed yet...that being said we all know we have had fish that were considered gone my most peoples standards. I myself am one of the people I do not need to link...However people on this site have helped me tremendously with diffident meds that could help, i guess what im saying is don't write him off cause his / her odds don't look well.

Good luck! Keep us updated.

She didnt make it :( No luck this time either, lets hope for the last one. She is not really moving that much, i dont know what is normal pup behavior? Can she get lonely in a tank for herselfe? I turned off the drip btw, il wait til she starts feeding(if she ever does), then turn it back on. She looks healthy and are 9cm long(disk). Is this normal size?

Beats me up a little, nothing i could do about the lost one. Now focuse is on the second, dont really get this pup thing, hope i get the hang of it soon. The females gets pregos the same day as they deliver, keeps em cumming :)

Thanks for support everyone!

if i read this right then you have had a couple of failed litters so that sugests to me that something needs to change. i think turning off the drip is a good move as i have read that lots of people have had success raising pups without a drip but with small regular water changes. the pups sound a little on the small size but not so small that they wont make it i dont think.

all i can think is to ask if you net the pups out of the tank to put them in the new one ?
