hard call - I don't know what I would have done, but the good thing is you end up with an awesome fish either way :)

I had the lfs hold it while I thought about it over lunch and decided that finding this GT at this size in my area for that price wont happen too often. I thought my other GT was pretty top notch but I can find others quite easily in comparison to the newest purchase. Also like stated earlier, a good friend of mine took my other one so I can still enjoy him too.

It may just be the lighting, but the old saum looks more like a redsaum than a goldsaum. That silver has nice wide markings though, very pretty.
I know there are different variations but I am far from a GT expert. I guess I thought they(ones with red, orangish, gold color) were all gold saums just with different color intensity. I know there are a lot of threads concerning all the GT hubbub but was never concerned enough to read all of the bickering and come up with my own conclusions. I guess for now it will be: Red fish, silver fish, old fish, new fish.lol

what type of camera are you using?

It's a cannon rebel xs. Nothing compared to what a lot of these guys have, but for more of an everyday camera we cannot complain. I scored some brownie points when I got the wife that for christmas;)

Sweet pickup and amazing deal.

Thanks partner. I dont really know what one should go for retail, but I was assuming it would generally be a bit more than $32! I am glad I got there when I did too because an older guy was lurking around when I was talking to the fish dept. mgr. telling him to hold it for me to give me time to think about it. When I got back he told me that old guy tried to buy it as soon as I walked out! Cannot complain about my lfs. He ended up buying a 8" GT that looked half as good as my old one. serves em' right!lol

Large cichlids around here usually go for $75 and up, depending on quality and store.

thats an awesome looking silver saum, much harder to find than the golds IMO. as for red, orange, gold etc. they all just gold saums. its just a marketing gimmick

I have to post this one just because I could'nt believe I got a shot of it in focus. Normally my wife takes the pictures and I decided to try my hand at it this time. Considering the movement and my lack of camera abilities I was happy with this one. Proof of my inexperience can be witnessed by my reflection ruining the third shot;)

Thanks man. I truly enjoyed my last GT and he had awesome color. I have decided that it's just personal preference and I believe this one fits better with the tank set up. As far as how hard they are to find I dont really know other than I have never seen one before this one but they have gold saums all the time.
