New rainbow cichlids

I had 3 pairs of Rainbows, and I found it very difficult to sex them whenever I needed to . . . when they are relaxed and pairing, it can be easy to tell, but when they are stressed for any reason, they suddenly all look the same (!)

generally speaking, the males are larger, more colorful, more aggressive and have longer finnage (nothing new there)

by the way, when I say "more aggressive", that is a relative term; IME, these are some of the least aggressive cichlids I have ever owned . . . they make great tankmates . . .

Thanks for the info. They turned this amazing white with blue high lights when I first got them...really justified their name for me.
 
Mine look like each other too. There's one that's absolutely vibrant and constantly chasing the others. I'm sure he's the male. The other two have a lack of color and are darker like the ones in the picture. Those two were sexed as female when I got them from CichlidsRool.
 
here's a heads-up: when they are breeding, they will turn a blend of yellow and black; it's pretty striking . . . just saying, don't worry; it's normal
