Damn thought someone had finally made another one of him when I saw this thread. He is in one of my ponds now, can see some current pictures of him at http://washingtonrays.com/hybrid1.html From reading this thread I guess he is about 3 years old now.

Wow that ray looks much better now! Stunning! Loving the bold pattern its slightly Tiger colored, I wish I knew what the parents were.

OK, I was not against hybrids until this thread. If you have to keep it "TOP SECRET" and not even tell people what the cross is than...??? I'm starting to loose my interest in hybrids already. Whats next, people will be paying crazy amounts for a ray they have no idea what the hell it is? Sounds like typical American commercialism. I honestly thought it looked like a retic cross of some sort by the original picture posted. I guess it would make sense not to tell people you can get an awesome hybrid by crossing a normal leo with a retic? Retic x Leo is my guess.

I think it is fun to keep people guessing and find out what people think the cross is but to leave it this long and still not say will annoy alot of people but dont let it put you off hybrids i like mine as no one looks the same.

Actually most of the time people tell you what the hybrid is if its captive bread, if its wild sometimes you can never know. In this instance the breeder didn't want to disclose it.

Look at it from the breeder's point of view. He made a work of art. Let it be just that. Who cares what the parents are? People are just gonna talk crap about it. Some things are best left undsaid, I think this holds very true with hybrids. IF I ever had hybrids of this magnitude I'd definetly keep the recipe a secret too.

Back when this thread was new I was on the same side of the fence as you are. After you experience the work involved in breeding them it tends to shift your train of thought a bit.

Same holds true to judging rays from pics and seeing them in the flesh. Many of us shoot pics with a $79 camera cause any more could be another hobby related purchase.

The dark pic is irrelevant. Not the same ray. JimR ended up with your ray and passed it along to JohnG.

I have never kicked myself so hard for passing on a ray as I did this one. :irked:

It's a friggin unicorn.
