Thats good advice, I'll do that. Can you give me a heads up on the best type of sand to use? Ive heard everything from play sand to quickcrete which sounded pretty crazy to me.

Not sure what quick Crete is but sounds a bit worrying as it could have lime in it.

Personally I would search this forum as lots of debate about the sand. I like the Carib sea range as it is Ray safe and bagged up for fish.

Keep up the water testing and changes and try some earth worms from a bait shop, it will help fatten it up.

Keep a regular check on the ammonia and nitrite then nitrate and change at least 25% of the water once per week....ensuring that you use a dechlorinator.

Try to get it feeding on some sinking pellets but slowly introduce them. A good varied diet is really important.

also lots of people will say reticulated but its actually reticulata since the short for it is retic its very easy to to think reticulated instead of reticulata i do it from time to time also.

For a retic 50 is probably a little high.
You can't find rays because, assuming it's Garden Grove, CA, they're illegal in your state.

This is a normal extension of the tail with this species,most lose this frail part to the tail on import thats all.
You need to either get that ray on a plain glass bottom or with just a fine scattering of sand.....this kind of substrate is totally unsuitable for rays let alone a new import.Apart from the possible damage to the underside of the disc which can lead to infection, this large gravel will harbour uneaten particles of food leading to water problems.

I paid $49.99 for her. Ive seen them for more then tripple that at other shops so when I saw the price I went for it.
Shes about 3 1/2" so far.

Yep, that's a good/fair price for a LFS. I know the only one near me has them for 139.99. I really hope this ray works out for you and you don't have trouble feeding it.

Its not the fact its gravel Anders.....i use gravel in all my tanks,its the type of gravel thats the problem!,my gravel is smaller and of a very round smooth consitency,the gravel in the picture looks sharp and too large for the ray thats on it.....looks deep also.
