New Ray tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
359.58 Gallons [US] = 3,000.7900684 Pounds (approx)

So you are at least in the ballpark of 1+ tons.

All things considered: LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
Find the most stable location for this tank just as you would any other aquarium. Make sure you have easy access to water for fill/draining. Make it as easy as possible for you to access any and all utilities that you may need. Design the filtering around your wants and desires.
The best possible location for your holes would be in the form of a linear flow.
Clean water in one end, dirty out the other. Since you are getting this custom drilled.....consider two or three return holes (to spice things up a bit) and two or three drains. The added turbulence (relative) will not only benefit your rays in terms of added stimulation, it will benefit your total system by better suspending waste solids in the water column for removal by the filter set-up.
You can easily create a manifold to handle the three returns properly with DIY stuff from a local plumbing store.
Be creative in what-ever you choose....good luck, hope this was helpful.

Thank you guys! Since I am having it custom made I can really go whatever size I want so I guess 96x36x24 it is. I for sure will let everybody see this bad boy when it is up and going. I hope to have it all set up and running in the next 8 weeks. I currently only have 2 retics plus my peaceful community fish. The retics are 6, and 8 inches right now and are in a 125 so I need to get this tank up and going. If any body has any suggestions for this tank I will gladly take them as this will be the first tank I am having built. I would love to do DIY stuff but I not quite the best at engineering stuff LOL. Hey Miles give me some help here! hehehe.

have u ever thought about a 4' wide tank? you'll love the width, and depending on what kind of rays u have they should be ok 4 life.

are u placing this tank on joists on a 2nd floor? or concrete?

a tank this size would be way too heavy for a 2 by 8, or 2 by 10 joist. you would have to reinforce the floor.

Help with what!? You got it covered! You're tank will be wider than mine :nilly: :( you'll get more opinions posting here than hearing me babble :D Let me know when you're ready to trade your runt :D

I am not trading my runt LOL might try and breed her to your male though some day. I was hoping you would help me out on the wet/dry and configuring the top so that it works the best for filtration. 4ft wide hmmm I think if I go wider than 36in my hubby is gonne kill me he already thinks this is an obsession. I am not sure about the floor as it is a new house we are moving into. Not on a concrete floor. It will be on a main floor with a basement underneath. My hubby's biggest worry is this thing going through the floor. Thankfully I already checked and insurance will cover it LOL.
