like Richard said, yes, they do. like nearly all other fishes, although they continue to grow throughout their lives, the growth RATE itself slows down quite a bit. so those older fishes aren't putting on a great deal of length and weight compared to the earlier years.--

I would love to know myself how much of that 327 pounds where eggs. She had to have been really ripe and ready to go given the season. I have got a few update e-mails on it but yet have seen that info. Let me know if you get anything. I'll let ya know if I do as well...

i know! that weight is just phenomenal! i can't even really fathom that for a gar, and quite honestly, the photos don't do the fish justice for its actual size (doesn't look a whole lot different from pics of 7' fish, they just took some mediocre angles/shots IMO). the one focusing on the head truly shows what a beast it is (to me at least).

all that being said, at least this fish shows that there is still hope for some true monsters out there!--

Hopefully more pictures surface, I'm sure they will, but does preservation shrink the fish at all?

a little bit, but it's negligible...only really makes a difference in some scientific measures, for the most part the general size is conserved--

Yowza, I'm away for a couple days and 7 pages...for the folks wondering about fishing vs fishkeeping posts, well I see it as relevent to the discussion of the fish, its potential size, etc. Not like it was a link to "best way to catch gar", which should be in the fishing section.

I'm more impressed with the guy hauling the 300+ lb fish into his boat by hand, with its head on his chest. Lucky he didn't get chomped in the face...

someone caught a 14 foot gar its on river monsters..

dang, i need an epic face palm pic here.... lol

no, there is no confirmed gator gar over 9 foot 8 inches if i remember correctly
