Got this little guy today, about 1.5-2". He was labeled as a red hump geophagus. This is my first geophagus so any info would be great such as growth rate and stuff, thank you.

You have yourself a nice little geophagus steindachneri. Never kept these guys but care should be like any other geo. They are sand sifters so make sure you have sand as your primary substrate. He'll do better if you keep more of his kind in with him, I would say 4 more. Geophagus are peaceful SA cichlids so you will be able to keep other peaceful fish with him. I believe they get around 6" but not too sure on that. Good luck with your little guy!!
The redhump geo's are really very traditionally normal geo's ... which is why they were removed from the Geophagus genus (they are currently orphaned and listed as 'Geophagus').
They are harem, advanced mouthbrooders much like Malawi cichlids are (immediately taken into the mouth, no pair bonding). If you get more, get 2-3 females. Males are rough on each other and on females. They also seem to grow much faster than Geophagus or Satanoperca species. They do sift, so add some sand!!
