First post on ray forum, so hello to all. Hope u can advise me. Can I add a 4 inch reticulated ray to my tiger datnoid community tank?
Tank dims are 60 *20*23 high. Water is ph 7.8. Nitrate 30. Temp 27 c. I do 40% wc per week. Will the ray fight with the days? Dats range from 4 to 9 inch.do I need sand, gravel or bare bottom?
Always wanted a ray, and after some research, retics
Sound like the best ray for beginners. I don't have RO water , will this be a
Problem?
The seller say there are tank bred, and feeding on chopped muscles, prawn and bloodworm. All advice is appreciated?

retics arent the best beginner rays and youll need sand or barebottom

Bare bottom yes. But what in your opinion is the best ray for beginners on your opinion?

I would go with a motoro ray, they are better eaters than retics. plus they grow bigger, so the dats won't mees with it.

Dunno about the datnoids but from what ive seen, your 9" dat might be of some problems.
To me 40% wc a week seems a bit too little.
Id say barebottom, its easier to clean, stingrays crap A LOT.
Retic not really the best choice, motoro's are "hardier" and eat alot more agressively than retics.
You dont need RO water, use what comes out of your tap + prime.
Highly doubt retics were tank bred as it is non profitable, most likely WC.
It usually takes a long while for retics to be weaned on foods such as mussels, and prawns. If the retic is from an lfs, i wouldn't believe it unless they fed it with prawns or mussels in front of me.

Ok so first of all don't get a retic they are not hardy and stingy eaters. Get a motoro. Going with dats i don't kno to be honest. And for bottom of the tank you need either sand or barebottom, rocks damage there disks. Also to provide for life you would need atleast a 36" wide preferably a 48" wide.

My 14" female motoro tried to cover my 6" ntt dat yesterday, had her in the corner wedged against the glass and a foam filter. She gave up after about half a minute and no harm to the dat. Hopefully, this won't happen again. I feed the rays twice a day so I don't think she was too hungry, maybe just being dominant.

ive never seen or heard of a dat bothering a ray and ive had up to 20 dats of every species in with all types of rays of all sizes...

if you get a retic and buy a pound or 2 of black worms maybe a dose of prazi or 2 and just put a little TLC in a retic is just as hardy as a motoro... takes a little extra to break them to other foods but its not a big deal i got a few proven methods... key would be to put the ray in a q tank or tub to get it eating then after 2 weeks give or take you move it to the main tank and get a tube to see to it worms etc. get to the bottom
