I have been wanting this little guy, (knowing exactly what I am getting into) for quite some time. I went to get some shrimp for my puffer at my LFS, and kept walking by his tank. He was swimming up and down the front of the tank like he was showing off for me. he's only 2-3 inches long. I finally told my hubby that I wanted him, and he was like "for real???" me "well duh, yes!" They bagged him up and when I went to pay, she said "you know he's deformed right? " me; "uh no?" her: "well I can't sell it at full price so you can have him half off" me: "uh, cool". (more in shock) . I was a) amazed that there was this much honesty, tho they know us up there and b) super excited to have yet another deformed fish. (i have a bunch that are) . So we have been tossing a few ideas around for names, and have come up with Joker (the midnight toker) :D or Smiley, since he is ALWAYS smiling. Any other ideas for names? I am absolutely in love with him, and my ID shark. I couldn't get a clear shot with my phone, but am trying to get some better pics.

Oh, and if you think he isn't a true RTC, can you please let me know what you think he is? Thank you so much.

Maybe with that deformity to his/her mouth, she/him won't be able to swallow any of her tankmates! :)

Cute little redtail shame about his mouth though :(

Thanks! It seems like its an underbite to me, He can move his mouth and eats like a pig. I hope he can over come it :)

lol exactly. Right now hes in a grow out tank, and when he gets a bit more size on him, I will move him with the big boys

Maybe its evolution... You could have a new sub species on your hands... I also love how when ever anyone on the site says they got an RTC the always add "(I know what i'm getting into)" lol

Ha you really do have to know what you are getting into lol. My RTC started growing probably a little over an inch a month as far as I know.

I think he is one fish I will definately start the photo updates on to see how he develops. It would be super cool if her were not what I thought. I like surprises tho, some don't Hell, now that I think about it, I have a few newbies that I can do this with. I really had to ad my " i know.. "

I really tried to do my homework on this fish, and make sure that I can provide for him for life. Thankfully I have a husband that has the obsession like I do. We talk about the pond we are going to build. We look at different ones on here, and around town and we are actually on the same page with each other. ( Tho I am still pushing the fish room idea too ) :naughty:

What!?!? There's another fish couple out there! :) I love it! :D:D:D:D

Best of luck with the little guy. Mine has a slight head deformity also and should be nothing to worry about. There is a bump under the skin on the right side of his head from his mouth to his eye. He cannot move the right large barbel. When he was that size it was sticking straight up!, now it is flopped down.

Water changes, water changes, water changes!! I change the water 2x a week and feed mine raw shrimp every day. He was 2" when I got him the last weekend of april, now he is 16" and in his pond!!!

Best of luck with the little guy!

Damn all my girlfriend knows is she like the big one with the orange tail (Green Terror) lol I guess you guys got a good setup lol. But I was thinking about doing an indoor pond but I honestly dont know if I would like not being able see them swim and what not. But I think it would be really cool if I put the type of money I wanted into it.
