New RTC

Keep us updated on this one. Looks like if treated properly he'll be quite the looker.
 
What's an average price for a 3"-4" RTC? I feel perfectly happy with the $10.50 I spent on mine, but I've noticed prices online ranging from $50-$80. Did I really luck out? Or is the Internet over priced?

Internet is mainly overpriced for sure. As you elude it really depends on size. I have bought RTC locally for $50 for a 1.5" one. So it really depends on location as well. The local fish stores here never carry them so it is a special order and they make sure to jack the prices up. I have a buddy that owns one shop and he showed me the mark up. He gets them for $5 each and marks them up to about 40 or more each based on survival rate for a special order. It also helps absorb the costs of other DOAs and deaths while waiting in the tanks. Truth be known that most pet stores that don't sell exclusively fish don't make very much off them and most of their stock will die before being sold. Sad but true. So everyone complains about the number of fish that die in keepers but way more will die in route or waiting to be sold at a lfs that cannot afford to feed them for growth.
