You may be right, and you may be wrong. Only time will tell, but just because things are that way in CALI doesn't mean its the same here. I see TEX/CON hybrids all the time at LFS and they go for twice the price of normal Texans or Cons. If they end up looking like you said then i'll get rid of the Con and keep the Salvin male but if they look great then i'll continue to breed them if the LFS continue to buy them. I have some big fish to feed but i'm not going to have a breeding operation to feed other fish. I think its a waste of time and money unless you have lots of breeding tanks...

:ROFL: ok guy!!!!! you once again stoop to calling me names like freak, sicko, and now loser!!!!!!! what you said was in no way wrong. i just found it funny. i do not know it all. i have LOTS to learn...in life and in fish.....but i admit it. i have seen numerous con-X's...i have worked at quite a few very nice fish stores in my area. im not puttin you down. i just made a suggestion to you. your convinis will no doubt probably produce a FEW good fish. the rest will be dull mutts. still a fish and still a pet. i have seen thousands of texan convicts and i do not think they are special at all. we could never get rid of them that fast. sure you may see them up there for more than your pure blooded fish. thats cool. im just saying you wont get very many good ones, why not keep the good ones for yourself and use the rest as feeders. then selectively breed those few young ones and keep their babies. and do that until you get something cool that breeds true!!!!!! so if you just want to act like you are, then thats cool, but take some constructive criticism and put it to use. sooooooo, until next time, you keep makin mutts and ill keep eatin em. :naughty:
 
noone rolls like jack black.......not even JACKOSCAR. hahahahah. well actually it depends on what you are rollin......hahahahahah. and i know you didnt intend for it to happen. im just saying dont sell a bunch of dull mutts to the lfs. it will just further the hate of hybrids. at least if you are gonna make some hybrids do a little more work and see what you can come up with. i for one like FH's and am not against hybrids, just against selling ugly ones to unsuspecting victims!!!!
 
Yeah i see what your saying, so take the good ones and throw them together and try to breed them. But i don't know i have a brand new 55 that i was going to throw them in once i get my other 180 set up at my shop but would it be worth it to breed them thats the question. I might just get rid of the con and put my male Jewel and Salvini in my new 55... Also i know you have owned flowerhorns for some time....Whats the best lighting to use on Blue Dragon to increase his colors and to cause him not to fade? I'm using 2 PowerGlo bulbs right now but have heard the coral life bulbs work really well too.
 
i use full spectrum PC bulbs on all my tanks. i also go against conventional wisdom and place tanks where they recieve some natural sunlight. i feel they look their best in this lighting and have never had any problems with fading on any of my fish. there are lots and lots of lighting options.....and was it worth it for the people who began selectively breeding to get the FH's...you be the judge. if you came up with something new you could BANK on this type of thing!!!! quality FH's have been known to fetch hundreds if not thousands of dollars per fish
 
Wow, i never thought i'd be saying this to you Mayhem but wow what great advice. Thanks, see thats what i'm talking about. It's that kind of energy that drives us all in this hobby. I am hoping that i do get something awesome and rare out of this batch. Hell after all this i'd send you one for free so you could also appreciate it "as long as you don't eat it" lol...
 
rock on bro....and no worries they dont get big enough to make a meal for me so they have no problems here at my house. keep us posted with pics as they get bigger. find the best lookers and cull the rest so these few good ones get optimum growth and water quality!!!
