New sand, clouding tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It woud sometimes take 2 or 3 weeks for the milkiness in my tanks to clear after the addition of aragonite.
The tip off for me, was the reef sand, which is basically crushed coral, and if your water is already on the alkaline side, that can supersaturate leaving the milky appearance.
A bacterial bloom can cause a similar reaction in a newly set up tank, but is not the singular reason.

If you can add another filter with polishing pads it should clear up but I would agree with above and every time you stir up the sand you might get a milky appearance for a bit

if you have a spare pump laying around...

cut the bottom of a soda bottle and tape it to the pump. fill the bottle with poly fill. turn on and drop in tank... boom... done

Sponge filters.. It sounds dumb but those things will polish a tank overnight. If done this for sand related mess a bunch of times.
Forgot to update. Added one sponge filter and boom, crystal clear water.
