Wow really nice work, similar to how I want to do my 180. Love the pic of the assassin snail "working", there awsome to watch. Really great work. How does one go about collecting driftwood? I live in washington state and we have rivers and lake galore but I'm always scared of getting soft wood or something that leached bad crap into my water.

Dude that tank is sick!!!! Thats exactly what i want to do with my 125 gal. I have two uarus about six inches both and im soon to be getting a super red severum and i want 3 greens. I need to know your stock, how many sevs and uaru do you have in there, thats great and the fish under the uaru looked like a chocolate cichlid to me but couldnt really tell from the pics. What filtration do you run i only have a ehiem 2215 on my tank for the time being because i mover my fluval 304 to my 55 salt tank.

Thanks man, I collect from high mountain creeks/streams where I know the water is clean and unpolluted. The wood I get is bone dry. It has no smells and I make sure to cut into with a saw to make sure it has no odor left. I have been using soft wood for years with no problem. It takes quite a long time if you start with a nice piece that hasnt seen any rot yet. I bake all my pieces in the oven or I have a 55 gallon steel drum I build a fire under and boil the large pieces for a half a day or so. It helps to find any soft or rotted spots you could miss when its dry. I have a drift wood spot about 40 miles from my house that literally has dw stacked 10ft high and it stretches for 30 yards or so. Most of it is downed trees so I just waltz in with my chain saw and cut out the pieces I think will look good.

I have 3 atabapos sevs, 2 green sevs , 4 Uaru(1 4" and 3 about 1.5"), 1 ctenopoma ocellatum, 4" BGK, Jaguar cat and some Sterbai corys(JAg is way to small to eat them for now) I had two silver angels but the male picked a fight with my Uaru and was beaten to death. I watched him bite a chunk out of the angels face then took out his eye. It was odd to watch. For filtration I run 2 Sun Sun 304s and a Mag. 350 stuffed with Bio Bale. I do at least one 50-60% wc a week usually 2. The pic of the fish you thought was a choc. cichlid is a juvenile Uaru. if it was post #3 the bigger fish under the Uaru is the ctenopoma, super cool fish but its from Africa same water requirements as the SA's.
