new senegal with old senny, advice please

ok ill put him in the community. i wondered about that, he has already been from the lfs to my friends tank and now to this one today, and i rescued him from the lfs tank he was in where another senny was nipping at him quite a bit. i like this one though because he has all the good qualities (active, not missing nostrils, ect) but he is also darker than all the others i have seen. so ill put him in the community, i dont think my ghost shrimp will like that but maybe they will be ok till i get my empty 5 gallon up and running. i can keep him in there temporarily till i figure out what to do. thanks.

I like that name.

And just to clarify, some nipping is normal when introducing a new poly. It is all about dominance. Usually clears up in a day or two and with no damage- or minimal damage- done.

If there is more damage,and goes on longer than that, then you should worry.
 
ok, so i just want to be sure i understand what im supposed to do. in a day or two after i have given Pheonix time to calm down from being moved and he's well feed and all that i rearrange the tank again and put him in there with Jude. wait 2 days, if on the third day he is still getting chased i take him out and assume that Jude is just an extra aggressive senegal. to clarify, after the second day should they actually get to a point - in the very soon future, maybe not exactly the third day - where they actually act like good friends? or what should i expect as a lifestyle from them in future years so ill know what to expect in "good" conditions.

thanks, the name Pheonix is very becoming of him. and also, after seeing the two of them side by side, Jude is definitely the one most likely to become the dominate one. he's bigger and just looks tougher. he's got a lot more width on him right now than Pheonix does. i guess maybe ill just have to watch and see what happens, but i hope Pheonix will be all right and become good friends with Jude, the other way around too.
 
It's not always the size though. Often personality has alot more to do with who is the dominant one.

Also they go through growth spurts. One is bigger than the other.

So, Phoenix will not most likely, not only catch up but may surpass Jude in size.

My newest Sen, a longfin named Ben overgrew my 9'' male Sen, Ocher, who I have had since last Feb, in one month!!!

I was shocked but not surprised.
 
wow... thats good news for Pheonix. im going to give it a week or so until i buy some more decor like bogwood and stuff to make more hiding places. and my senegal just yawned. thought i would share that with yall. awsum gaping mouth of doom heheheee. when i start the acclimation period i will let yall know. thanks for all your help everyone, i really appreciate it.
