Hey,

This is my new 65 gallon that I got for my birthday. I wanted a 125 but my parents said it was "too" big. Sooo I had to settle for this one. Its has one common pleco, one Jack Dempsey, and 5 convict cichlids. I want to know what sex the Jack Dempsey is. I plan on breeding him. Tell me what you think about the setup. :headbang2

Dempsey is a female. Looks like a mix of male and female cons. Nice looking tank. :)

For dempseys, a bright blue beard generally signifies a female. Males might have some blue on the chin, but not nearly as much as females, and the males usually have more gold and blue spangling along their whole bodies.

Sure. They will start breeding at around 3". Yours is probably at least 7 or 8 months old. You'll want to get a male around the same size. A smaller male might work, or she might just kill him.

lol you say you want to breed your jack, but i hope you realize you will be breeding convicts soon enough.... nice setup though... Like the black gravel...

Haha yeah I know. I hope to get rid of the convicts soon. Thanks

Yeah, you'll have con fry in the next few weeks probably. ;) Any fish besides the parents will be bullied pretty bad. Con Parents are mean.

if you get rid of them you should keep a female for sure....very cute cichlid imo.. also what are the dimensions of your 65? i don't think that tank is really big enough for 2 adult JD..
