New Setup

Here's my new setup. Supposed to be a 70 gallon long, but I think its a 75 or more. Anyways, I got this setup from a friend and they coudlnt remember the name of the breed of this fish, because its a hybrid of something and a gold fish. Apparently where they got this fish, Pruess Pets up here in Lansing MI, used to do this crossing quite commonly but has since stopped. I know the easiest thing would be to take the picture to the store, but I figured I might as well show off the tank as well. So, here goes

There is no goldfish in that fish...it is a blood parrot. It is a hybrid and a nice looking one. How long has this tank been set up. I would ditch the golfish as they are going to dirty up your tank. Good luck and welcome to MFK!!

I am gonna get rid of the goldfish today. The tank has been setup for 4 days, I basically transplanted it from her house to mine. I must also admit, this is the first setup I've personally had that wasn't a game fish tank or oscar tank in 18 yrs, so I'm pretty ignorant to most "tank fish". Now that I have the name, I can do some research. The fish is about 6 inches long and has quite the little attitude. He has came up and bumped my hands while putting the thermometers in and stares at my dog when he comes to the glass to look. What can I put in there with this blood parrot?

Thanks for the welcome. The tank has been up for 4 days, and I literally just got rid of the goldfish to the neighbor. I transplanted the setup from my friends house to mine. I have to admit I am pretty ignorant to aquarium fish as this is the first NON native tank or Oscar tank I've had in some 18 years. Now that I know the name of the fish I can do some research on it. What other fish are compatible with this parrot? I may end up rehoming him to my neighbor as well because I am itching for an oscar tank once again. I want a native tank as well, but this one is too small to do that the right way.

And the avatar is a bit fitting, I've been a bouncer since I was 18 and have earned the nickname of Bulldog... lol

I have seen blood parrots mixed with a lot of different fish, but I have all four of mine together. They have great personalities. Stay away from any african cichlids, they are too aggressive and will stess out the parrot as they have no true way to defend themselves with their deformed mouth. I read one of your other posts that you may rehome him and get back into oscars. I have a dedicated parrot tank and an oscar tank so I know how you feel. I have seen oscars and parrots mixed but you would need a much bigger tank to do so. Good luck in whatever you decide and research through this forum. There is an immense amount of great experience on here and most all of your questions can be answered.
