absolutely not, TL has his gators in a huge pond, and the tankmates are mostly larger than those. the OP on the other hand has it in a much smaller enclosure with smaller tankmates too. also it doesn't matter if the gator is distracted when the fish are added, he will get them in time.
to the OP, sorry you got duped into getting the gator. as you've noticed, it will start killing off its tankmates. it will also likely outgrow the current tank. i would start looking for a permanent home for it, although your tank should hold it for maybe a year
