New shy " red isletas"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mine have been awesome and spawning ever since I got them. They are aggressive fish, especially whit fry. (which they currently have. AGAIN) :) They share the tank with a 6" Cuban and a pair of Cosat Rican Gold Dovii.

The male is about 8" the female 5"

Stunning pair madness! I might just post pics in this thread since it has become a " red isletas" thead. For people who have them have you found that they don't get as big as citrinellum? That's part of the reason why I got them because of their supposed smaller max size of 10-12".

Well here they are the male is on top and the female on the bottom. They are still super stressed I am hoping they will come around.

Well introduced the cubans today thinking the isletas might attempt to stand their ground against the smaller fish. Cubans run both fish up and down the tank. These guys are more skittish than my silver dollars. Kind of sad to see a 7-7.5" male isletas cower to a tiny 4" female cuban. I guess these guys are not as nasty as I thought. Should I leave the cubans with the isletas and hope the presents of more fish helps them acclimate or should I remove them? The guy who was supposed to pick them up/call never did.

If it were me, I'd separate the Cubans. Typically the presence of more outgoing fish would help bring them around, but if they're just being overly aggressive and running them up and down the tank, it's probably doing more harm than good.

Good luck with them; They're really beautiful fish and I hope they come around for you.

Thanks I will remove the cubans. They will not like that but what must be done must be done. I am sure they will come around. My midas were the same way when introduced but of coarse my midas were much smaller fish.
