My silver datnoid is about the same size as yours. And he eats just about anything. I even like him better than my NTT.

I doubt that and as far as I have read their closest relatives are the Lobotes which are the saltwater tripletails...I've been after one of those for years.

Perciformes are a huge group of fish (might be the biggest after siluriformes /catfish), they include cichlids and sunfish and many more. The shape of the fish is ,to a large extent, irrelevant.
